The whole series revolves around a young, Jewish American housewife, Midge, living with her husband, Joel. her husband is a businessman working in a plastic company name as Moonlight. He is also a Comedian at The Gaslight Cafe. Her husband leaves her for his secretary. Broken Midge, later discover her talent for doing stand-up comedy. The whole series is full of her journey to become a comedian and establish her name.
