The story begins with a high school teen Hannah Baker (who killed herself) leaving a mysterious box to her friend Clay Jensen. The box had the details and reasons for the girl, taking up her own life. Before taking the step, she recorded her tape justifying the 13 Reasons for her step. Hannah also included the names of various people including her friends. After the huge success of the first season, the series was renewed thrice.
